A selected hospitality and historical renovation project from ALG’s legacy project experience.
As Project Manager for RC Mathews Contractor, I led the Hermitage Hotel historic renovation in downtown Nashville, TN. When it opened in 1910, the Hermitage Hotel was Nashville’s first million-dollar hotel. In 2002, we began a total renovation, restoration and upgrade within the constraints of a firm ten (10) month timeframe.
The project consisted of historic renovation of the lower two levels of the hotel and building exterior, the upper ten floors were completely gutted and rebuilt into luxury hotel rooms and suites. The exterior sidewalk and basement wall had to be demolished to install the new generator. Upon its reopening in February 2003, the hotel included a newly created Grand Foyer with stained-glass ceiling, a comprehensive facelift of the Grand Ballroom and Restaurant, as well new oversized guest rooms and suites.
Following the renovation, the Hermitage Hotel was distinguished as Tennessee’s only AAA Five Diamond and Mobil Five-Star Hotel.
Approximately three quarters through the project, I was asked by the owner to manage owner furnishings install and coordination.
The project was awarded the Award of Excellence by the Associated Builders and Contractors.
